Betaflight 2026.6.1: What the New Autopilot Means for FPV Filming

Betaflight dropped version 2026.6.1 this month, and for once the changelog is worth reading carefully. Buried between microcontroller bring-ups and CAN bus support is a set of autopilot and navigation features that shifts what FPV hardware can do on a professional shoot. AssistNow Autonomous is now included in the GPS feature set. It allows the GPS module to predict satellite positions using data stored from previous flights, which reduces the time to first fix — particularly relevant at remote locations in Romania where you may be powering up far from any internet connection and cannot pull fresh almanac data.

Faster GPS lock means less time waiting on a location and more time shooting. On tight production schedules in Transylvania — where golden hour windows are short and access to some locations requires setup time — shaving two or three minutes off GPS acquisition is a real operational improvement.
