The Best Locations for Drone Filming Near Sibiu

Sibiu sits at the doorstep of some of the most filmable landscape in Romania. Within a couple of hours you can be over an alpine lake, a mountain pass carved into a ridge, or a river gorge, all of them made for aerial video. These are our favourite spots, and the ones we return to most.

The Transfăgărășan

The most famous mountain road in the country, and one of the best drone roads anywhere: hairpins stacked up a wall of rock, waterfalls, and Bâlea Lake at the top. It's only open in the warmer months, and weather changes fast, so timing is everything. But when it lines up, nothing beats it.

Bâlea Lake, Transalpina & Valea Oltului

Bâlea is a glacial lake ringed by peaks, dramatic in summer and under snow alike. Transalpina, the highest road in Romania, gives long, open ridgeline shots. And Valea Oltului, the Olt river gorge, is a completely different look: water, cliffs and railway winding through a valley just south of Sibiu.

Păltiniș & close to home

For something nearer, Păltiniș is Romania's oldest mountain resort, a short drive up from the city and easy to combine with a Sibiu shoot. We know the light, the access and the flying conditions at all of these, which is half the job when the weather in the mountains only gives you a short window.
